First World War Experience
The only information we have on Herbert’s war service is an article in one of the local newspapers dated 24th October 1914. From this we know the following.
Having been in Canada for two years he paid a visit to Bexhill. The Canadian Expeditionary Forces were encamped on Salisbury Plain and he got leave for the weekend to visit his parents at 125 Windsor Road. He is now 25 and before going to Canada he was a Corporal in the 5th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment and when he went to Canada he joined the 95th Saskatchewan Rifles.
Herbert left Quebec for England on September 28th 1915.
