John Izzard, father of Bexhill Museum patron Eddie Izzard, was evacuated from his home in Bexhill in the early years of World War II aged just 12.

He returned during the winter of 1940 to find the town blanketed in snow. Decades later Eddie paid tribute to his father’s wartime experience by designing and funding a marvellous recreation of Bexhill as it was on that day.

Here the world famous actor and performer tells the story of his father’s return to Sky News Arts & Entertainment Correspondent Lucy Cotter, and how it inspired the creation of the Bexhill Winter Wartime Model Railway, centrepiece of Bexhill Museum’s Bexhill in WWII gallery.
