The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway

5 February @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway No.1 "Green Goddess" engine.

Guest speaker Andy Nash tells the story of the famous Romney Marsh railway – including its secret role during WWII. Since 1927 the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway has been a landmark on the Marsh. During WWII the line was requisitioned by the War Department – using the only miniature armoured train ever built and run.

The line was used extensively during Operation Pluto, which devised and ran an undersea pipeline to supply the Allied forces with petrol during their advance from the D-Day beaches and beyond. Today, the RH&DR has become one of Kent’s top tourist attractions with visitors from around the world.
