The history of Burton St Leonards
5 April @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Local historial Ken Brooks discusses the history of Burton St Leonards. During the 18th century that doctors began to recommend sea air and sea water as cures for various ailments. This inspired James Burton, a wealthy builder and architect, to create a ‘watering place’ on the south coast. It would include accommodation and facilities for the fashionable world. Among his first guests was a young Princess Victoria in 1834.
