First World War Experience
As with his brother, Oliver, William’s service records have not survived but we do know that he enlisted on 31st May 1915 and his Theatre of War was France
He was reported as being wounded twice – the first time in August 1916 and an article in the Bexhill Observer says:
“Private W. H. Wooler (sic) and Private R. Dunster, of the Royal Sussex Regiment, both of Sussex, have been wounded.”
The second report – in the Bexhill Chronicle dated 15th June 1918 – says “Wounded – Pte. W. H. Wooller (2323) Royal Sussex Regiment, Bexhill.”
Apart from the above we only know that the medals he received were:
Victory Medal, British War Medal, and the 15 Star.
