William does not appear to have married and when he died in 1953 he left an estate of £370-13s-4d. At the time of his death he was living at Rostrevor, 96 Sandown-road Lake, Sandown, Isle of Wight.
First World War Experience
William enlisted on 21st April 1915 and served in France. At the time of enlistment he was 25½ years of age, was just over 5’ 7” tall, weighed 124lbs, with a chest of 35½, expansion 2½”. He was of good physical development and had 6/9 vision in both eyes. He also had a mole on the left side of his abdomen. He started service as a Gunner and was made a Bombardier on 1th July 1917.
In August and September 1915 he had two periods where he was “AWOL” and was confined to barracks for 5 and 10 days and had to forfeit 3 and 5 days pay respectively.
William was demobbed on 31st March 1920 and was awarded the Victory Medal, the British War Medal, and the 15 Star.
