In 1891 Thomas and Clara lived at 198 Rye Foreign and Thomas was employed as a Crackman.

In the 1911 census Arthur was living with his brother, John, and his family at 88 Windsor Road. They moved to number 98 in 1914.

First World War Experience

Although Arthur’s service records have not survived we know that he enlisted on 23rd December 1914 and by 1st May of the following year he was in France at the front with the 2nd Home Counties Royal Engineers.

He died in Lewisham, London, on 18th October 1918, after being injured in France as he is listed as a ‘Casualty of War’.

Arthur was awarded the Victory Medal, the British War Medal, and the 15 Star.
