Family Information
Parents: Charles Frankland (1846-) and Sarah Jane Frankland (1844-), nee Tumber.
Siblings: Emily (b1872), Robert (b1873), Richard (b1875), George (b1878), Ellen (b1879), Margaret (b1881), and Ernest (1885-1973).
Charles’ was a coachman working for Miss Stringer, of Lauriston, Hollington Park, St. Leonards on Sea, when he was called up in 1918.
When he died he left an estate of £385.3s.9d to his brother, George Frankland, a retired farm worker. Charles’ address at that time was – 42 Beaconsfield-road, Bexhill on Sea.
First World War Experience
Charles was conscripted in April 1918 and on his enlistment form he stated that he was 44 years and 3 months old. He was 5’ 6” tall, had a chest measurement of 35” – expansion 3”, weighed 126lb, and had a fresh complexion. His vision in both eyes was 6/6.
No medals can be found for Charles although he did serve until mid-1919.
