First World War Experience
We know very little about George’s war service as his records did not survive the bombing raids of the Second World War. He served in both the 261st Brigade and 2nd London Bde of the Royal Field Artillery and was posted to the Second Theatre of War. He was killed during the Battle of Ypres 1917 – namely the Capture of Westhoek on 10th August of that year.
There is mention of his being awarded the 1914-1915 Star but one can safely assume that he also was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
