First World War Experience
Oliver’s service records have not survived so we only know what we can glean from the local newspapers as to his war service – and that is not a lot. He joined the Sussex Royal Field Artillery (T) sometime before 15th August 1914 and an article in the Bexhill Chronicle of that date reported that he was billeted at Tenterden on his way to Canterbury. The only other mention we have of him is in the Bexhill Observer, 10th April 1915, showing him on horseback and giving his details as “Bombardier, 6th Sussex Royal Field Artillery”.
From the Medal Rolls Index we find that he was awarded the Victory Medal, the British War Medal, and the T.F. War. RFA. TFM.7.
